Meet Abigail – A Determined Scholar at Henderson School of Business
Dear Dr. Campbell,
I would like to begin by thanking you and the faculty of the College of Business for your interest in recommending me for a Foundation Scholarship. I am truly grateful for the opportunity, and I feel so fortunate to have such an amazing staff that continues to support its students. When I first chose to major in finance, it was mostly because I have always excelled in math. However, during my time in the College of Business, I have learned the importance of communication skills, critical thinking, and attention to detail. Because of my professors, I have found that I want to pursue accounting after completing my bachelor’s degree. I plan to obtain my master’s in accounting from UCA and later obtain my CPA license. I look forward to working in such a fulfilling and compelling field.
Attending university has always been one of my most important goals, but it has not always been financially realistic for myself and my family. My father is self-employed, where he does tile work. Because he purchases his own materials and equipment and is his only employee, his work can be financially unpredictable. As well as this, he is a single father to myself and my brother. He has always been realistic with both of us that funding our education may not be possible, considering the nature of his work. I have been fortunate academically, which has granted me scholarships that have allowed me to continue my education. A Foundation Scholarship would benefit myself and my family greatly, and it would allow me to continue pursuing my academic goals.
Throughout time at Henderson State University, I have been fortunate to take leadership positions that have helped me to grow personally and professionally. Last year, I joined the Alpha Gamma chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau. Recently, I was elected Vice President of Member Development, in which I support our members academically and personally. I check in with members to make sure they are maintaining our minimum 2.5 GPA requirement, create events that foster sisterhood, and work with our executive team to welcome and mentor new members. My time in Greek life has supported my growth in communication and teamwork, both of which will support me as I move into my professional career.
Thank you again for this amazing opportunity. I appreciate your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Abigail Pence
