Meet Micah Gibson – A Determined Scholar with Big Dreams in Business
Dear Donors of the Christopher Castleberry Scholarship,
As of now, I am a senior at Henderson State University. I am a Health and Physical Education Major, I will be taking my Praxis exam soon. I am getting my Bachelor of Science in Education. I am set to graduate this December; I will be interning at a school somewhere close to Arkadelphia starting this fall. I plan on pursuing my Master’s Degree in Administration after I complete my Bachelor’s, I would like to be a principal or athletic director one day. My plan is to coach football and teach history or science, but I’ll be certified in Health and Physical Education before anything else.
Greek life has had a phenomenal impact on me. It has improved my character and has enhanced my social skills more than anything else. Starting off as a freshman transfer at Henderson, I had no intentions of being part of Greek Life. Once I made friends and got involved, it was truly a blessing to be a part of it. I met amazing friends, made connections, and even met my girlfriend through Greek Life. I stepped out of my comfort zone and became comfortable speaking publicly and talking to new people no matter what setting I’m in. I would recommend Greek Life to my younger siblings, their friends, and even my future kids.
I am currently the Vice President and Treasurer of Phi Lambda Chi Epsilon Chapter, and I couldn’t be happier with how the fraternity is growing. My improvements to the fraternity can vary. I’ve helped recruit guys, come up with ideas to raise money, and thought of ways to run the fraternity better. I keep up with the money as treasurer, I’ve advised Drumbeat, Super Bowl Squares, and now the crawfish boil next week. I just make sure money doesn’t go missing and that we spend it responsibly. As Vice President, I oversee events on campus making sure members are notified and in attendance, as well as coordinating future events and coming up with ideas to discuss at our weekly chapter meetings. I make sure members pay dues and stay involved in both on-campus events and private events. I enjoy holding these positions on the executive board, and I hope our younger members can learn from me and build on what I’ve contributed to this fraternity. I believe I am eligible for a chance at receiving the scholarship from the Castleberry Foundation, and I want to thank the foundation for giving me a shot.
With sincere appreciation,
Micah Gibson
